Canada is going purple.
Well, at least some Canadian homes will be putting shades of purple on their walls if the 2025 paint colours of the year are any indication of what’s to come.
So it’s bye-bye to most whites and its bye-bye grey. Actually, it’s bye-bye to most neutrals as now that the colours of the year are out, it’s evident Canadian homeowners or renters are going to be guided by the bold and the beautiful.
BeautiTone, Benjamin Moore, Dulux, Sherwin Williams and Sico have all unveiled their colour selections for the year ahead — Behr was out the gate earlier, also with a daring colour — so expect to add some drama to your walls if you’ve been waiting to find out what’s hot for 2025.
So, what should you expect your walls to look like once the paint leaves the can and drapes your walls? It will be a mixture of soothing, spicy or transformative depending on which you ultimately choose.

From BeautiTone, it’s Midnight Flora, a vivid shade of red purple that is said to have a magical, mysterious depth to it.
“Midnight Flora speaks to the profound shift toward imagination we’re seeing in colour and design, one that is shaped by a freedom of creativity,” said Kristen Gear, lead design and colour specialist, BeautiTone Paint and Home Products.
From Benjamin Moore, you get Cinnamon Slate, a mix of heathered plum and a velvety brown. It’s described as being both adaptable and distinct, a colour that will bring a soothing familiarity and balance to any design.
“As the use of more saturated colour in design has increased in recent years, we are seeing a growing interest in more nuanced colours, whose undertones add intricacy and dimension,” said Andrea Magno, director of colour marketing and design at Benjamin Moore. “Cinnamon Slate is an inviting hue that offers enduring style and modern sensibility. Its depth and richness bring an air of approachability and sense of comfort throughout the home, making it a new favourite for years to come.”
From Dulux, it’s a truly high impact colour: Purple Basil.

“Many of our customers want to incorporate a bold colour to transform a space in their home but when it’s time to make the final selection, they play it safe and revert to neutral, muted shades,” said Mitsu Dhawan, PPG marketing manager for Dulux. “This year, we’re helping with that final push to go bold and try a dramatic, less expected colour.”
From Sico, the 2025 colour of the year selection is Starry Night, also a deep purple hue; the company said it balances warmth and energy to create dynamic yet inviting spaces.
“Starry Night invokes the depth and drama of the night sky while also providing the comfort we get from knowing the same galactic events we see from our backyards are being seen by others around the world,” said Martin Fuchs, PPG senior marketing manager, Sico Paint Brand. “The Sico colour of the year has the authentic ability to connect us more to nature and each other in 2025.”
Sherwin Williams, meanwhile, has switched it up. Celebrating the 15th anniversary for announcing its colour of the year selection, it decided that it won’t just do one colour for the colour of the year, it will do nine, and instead launched its first-ever colour capsule of the year — the capsule is a curated blend of timeless favourites and future classics.

“It’s very special to commemorate our 15th Colour of the Year anniversary by expanding to an entire capsule that is a modern, fresh take on colour, with a balanced and usable assortment of shades,” said Sue Wadden, director of colour marketing at Sherwin-Williams.
Finally, and heading back toward the purple portion of the colour spectrum, Behr’s Rumors, is a deep ruby red.
“Our colour of the year empowers consumers to use colour with confidence,” said Andy Lopez, senior vice-president, head of marketing at Behr Paint. “Rumors is undoubtedly a colour that inspires creativity while being versatile enough to transform a space through large and small projects.”
