The death is the first Edmonton motorcycle fatality of the fall, with the summer death toll for bikers one of worst.
Speed was also a factor in a Friday the 13th motorcycle collision on 118 Avenue and 139 Street earlier this month.
The 51-year-old motorcycle driver was heading east on 118 Avenue around 4:35 p.m. when he crashed into an SUV travelling south on 139 Street.
That was the eighth biker death in the Edmonton area over the summer, including four city crashes in the month of June alone.
