It might be one of the most elegant bungalows you’ll ever get to see.
It might also be one of the most expensive bungalows you ever come across as this 2,858-square-foot home
— actually, more than 5,100 sq. ft. of livable space if you include the finished basement — is the $2.5-million
grand prize for the fall edition of the Mighty Millions Lottery.
In support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, this lottery home is located in Windermere
Grande in the southwest. On an expansive corner lot, this is no ordinary bungalow or perhaps one could say
it’s a very mighty bungalow. Impressive on the outside with a stone and stucco exterior, it’s even more
impressive inside.
Bright and spacious, you do not feel like you’re in a bungalow once you enter. With a series of mature trees
as a backdrop — seen from expansive large windows — it feels more like you’re in a stately mansion that has
been here for decades.

“What I love about this house is that it feels so stately, so grand,” said Karen Faulkner, president and CEO
of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. “When you come into it, it has these high ceilings, a
limestone fireplace. Everything is just gorgeous.”
Done in an organic modern style — very clean lines with natural woods to embrace the organic elements —
it’s the extensive space throughout that will likely capture your attention. The openness of the open concept
design makes each zone (be it the kitchen, dining room with its inked grasscloth wall covering, or great
room with its stunning exterior views) seem much larger than the actual space it occupies.
Being a bungalow, this home has a main floor primary suite that is also roomy. As you enter, you walk into
a flex zone that could be an office, den, lounge or whatever you would like it to be as it is connected, yet
separated, from the principal bedroom, which also takes advantage of the mature exterior view. A large walkthrough closet then connects to an even larger ensuite, with soaker tub, generous shower and dual vanities.

But there’s more to the main floor. There’s a three-season covered patio, screened in to protect from
unwanted pests, and there’s a large pass-through to it that connects to the bar space just off the kitchen. A
butler’s pantry, powder room and mudroom round out the main floor.
Downstairs, being a Mighty Millions home, is where you’ll find the “fun” stuff this house has to offer: a
games room equipped with games (ping pong, skee-ball and sack toss), a sunken TV room for movies,
gaming or able to be transformed into a golf simulator, and a wet bar for the adults. You will also find two
overly large secondary bedrooms each with their own ensuite and walk-in closets.
This marks the fifth lottery home Newground Developments Ltd. has built for the Mighty Millions Lottery.
“Brian and I are both born and raised in Edmonton, along with our children,” said Ashley MacLean about
the Edmonton-based custom home building company she and her husband own. “We have used the
Stollery, and so we have seen the importance of this children’s hospital firsthand. It is important to us to do
anything we can do support the Stollery so it can continue to help the families of our city and surrounding
areas. We are honoured to be working with them again.”

Mighty Work
The Stollery is the most specialized children’s hospital in Western Canada, responding to more than
300,000 patient visits each year.
“When Albertans buy a Mighty Millions Lottery ticket today, they’re helping kids across Alberta live
longer, healthier lives tomorrow by supporting the purchase of highly specialized pediatric equipment and
further investments in pediatric research,” said Faulkner.
Money raised from the fall lottery — Mighty Millions does two home lotteries a year including one in the
spring — will go towards jet ventilators (often used with newborns, especially pre-term babies), specialized
beds that allow parents to cuddle up with their children who are in palliative care, and research and
equipment for the Stollery hospital.
Net proceeds from this fall’s lottery are projected to exceed $2 million. Since 2006, the foundation has
invested more than $85.3 million in children’s health research, supporting more than 2,079 research
projects.
