Edmonton’s home builders are showing that they build some of the best homes in Canada.
UrbanAge Homes, a local builder currently building in St. Albert, batted a thousand at the recent 2024 Canadian Home Builders’ Association National Awards for Housing Excellence. Entering in just two categories, it emerged as the winners with its Augusta and Beverly models taking the honours in their respective classifications.

“I know I can speak on behalf of our whole group at UrbanAge in saying that we had hoped for this result, and when it came to fruition, we were honoured and grateful to be recognized as one of Canada’s premier builders,” said Jordan Pelletier, one of four company partners. “We have all worked very hard this past year, and getting to see some of that hard work pay off puts a jump in our step to continue pushing the envelope when it comes to building award-worthy homes in Canada.”
With the national awards being held in Saint John, N.B., UrbanAge wasn’t able to attend. Three of the partners (Pelletier, Brett Stewart and Brad Sykes; Trevis Stewart could not make it) were actually on the golf course the evening of the event.
“We were following along on the Instagram feed as winners were announced,” said Pelletier. “We hadn’t checked in a couple holes, and when I checked the next time, I had seen that we won both of the awards we were nominated for. We had a good celebration on one of the Par 3 tee boxes! Enough of one that we had a group behind us thinking someone had just made a hole in one!”
Of the five awards for detached production homes, UrbanAge took the Best Production Home 2,101 square feet to 2,400 sq. ft. for the Beverly and Best Production Home 2,401 sq. ft. to 2,800 sq. ft. for the Augusta. Interestingly, another Edmonton builder, Jayman Built, won Best Production Home Under 1,800 sq. ft. for its Taylor 24, giving Edmonton three of those five national awards.

“We know there are a lot of fantastic builders within Edmonton and area, and it just shows that although Edmonton is one of the most affordable urban centres in Canada, it hosts some of the best builders,” said Pelletier. “I would hope this puts a certain level of trust in buyers when looking at moving within or to Edmonton and area.”
The Beverly
At just under 2,300 sq. ft., the Beverly has just about every feature UrbanAge could squeeze into it.
On the main floor there are 10-foot ceilings and eight-foot doors throughout. Custom iron railings, stained maple cabinetry, arches galore, a real stone fireplace surround, Venetian plaster hood fan and herringbone tile are just some of the highlights. On the upper, you’ll find nine-foot ceilings, the primary suite and two children’s bedrooms, an office space and a bonus room. Then the finished basement pulls out all the stops: nine- and 10.5-foot ceilings, a wine room, gym with glass enclosure, a full wet bar and a golf simulator.
“I think some of the standout features that would have stuck out to judges would have been the utilization of high-end materials along with the level of detail throughout every aspect of the home,” said Pelletier. “This model has become very popular with this home being our show home. We have been able to showcase the fact that buyers don’t need massive footages to obtain the functional luxury they are after. This model can host a wide variety of options, and is customizable when building with us. The model itself has been around for just under two years, and we are currently building it in Riverside, St. Albert.”

The Beverly also won for Best Single Family $600,000 to $700,000 earlier this year at the Canadian Home Builders’ Association-Edmonton Region 2024 Awards of Excellence in Housing Gala.
The Augusta
This home is all about the wow factor: the entire living space on the main floor is vaulted to a loft style second floor, boasting 14- to 20-foot ceilings at the back half of the home.
There’s also a massive entertainer’s kitchen featuring a 13-foot island, full butler style pantry and main floor office space. The second floor has the lofted bonus room, the bedrooms and laundry. The primary suite features windows right to the floor in the bedroom and a spa-like ensuite as well as vaulted ceilings. The basement features a massive golf simulator with some viewing space, an adjacent wet bar, lounging/cigar space and a large gym.
“This model has been extremely popular amongst the estate lots we have available,” said Pelletier. “It has been around for about two years, and we are currently building it in Riverside.”
Currently, there is no show home version of this home but there are some under construction as well as a completed version UrbanAge can gain access to.
