Lake Summerside in southwest Edmonton is again open for recreational use after Alberta Health Services ended a water quality advisory on Friday.
The advisory had been in place since May 31 after tests discovered elevated levels of fecal bacteria.
The public was told was told to avoid swimming or wading in the beach area, and that ingesting the water risked gastrointestinal illness, including vomiting or diarrhea.
“Water quality, including fecal bacteria levels, has returned to an acceptable level and the health risk is low for usage of the lake for recreational purposes,” AHS wrote in a news release Friday.
“As always, visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any lake or reservoir, at any time.”
